Graphic Works
Graphic works evoke the association with the linen cloth spreading on the ground after it has been bleached but its destiny has not been decided yet.
Once We’ve Awakened, 2022, monotype and pencil drawing on Japanese paper
6 artworks placed in two rows one after the other are combined in one collection.
Monotype technique was chosen for the graphic works for its unique and unpredictable result, echoing the tradition of the ritual towel preparation. The participants did not agree on a pattern or certain work process but more relied on the divine powers to guide them in their ceremony. Hence the Holy Shroud association in the first artwork of each row.
The first row signifies “the marsh”, the quiet contented sleepy state of the mass undisturbed in its contentedness. The last of the three artworks in the row bears the word “once”.
The second row (on the photo above) represents the awakening of the consciousness and ends with a work bearing the words “we awakened”.
The artworks bear half-emerged geometric symbols, thus continuing the idea of the project.
Half-transparent images provoke the dialogue with a viewer, who can read the message only once they place the hands behind the artwork, thus involving in a tactile experience with the art works just like the participants of the ceremonial towel ritual contacted with the fabric, piercing it with their positive thoughts, aspirations and hope.
